Why Attestation Is Required & What Does It Means

Travel documents are mandatory while immigrating to foreign countries. These important travel documents include visa, passport, educational certificates, birth certificate, marriage certificate (if migrating along with your spouse), experience certificates etc. To prove the authenticity of the documents, you are required to attest those documents from the country where it was issued.

Attestation is the act of legalising a document to declare its authenticity with a seal and sign of the verifying personnel. It is essential to verify that the document is genuine and issued from the respective countries. It is mainly done to avoid forgery and use of fake documents.

Attested documents are required while immigrating to foreign countries for higher education or employment purposes. For attestation, documents are classified into three categories. They are educational documents, personal and commercial documents.

The process of certificate attestation changes depending upon the type of documents. The important certificate attestation processes are HRD attestation (for educational documents), Home/Notary attestation (for personal documents), Chamber of commerce attestation (for commercial documents), MEA attestation, Embassy attestation, MOFA attestation etc. The initial attestation process varies from state to state.
