Process of Apostille Attestation

Apostille attestation is required for travelling to any of the Hague convention member countries. The attestation is done by the Ministry of External Affairs [MEA]. Apostille attestation is mainly done for personal and educational documents.

According to the Hague convention of 1961, a single document is required or legalized to travel to all other Hague member countries. An apostille document is acceptable in all Hague Convention countries. Therefore, there is no need to do document attestation every time you visit a Hague member country.

The main process of apostille attestation is to get the state attestation from the state where the documents were issued. HRD attestation is done for educational documents while Notary attestation/ Home attestation is done for personal documents. After the state attestation, the document is attested from the Ministry of External Affairs. Embassy attestation is not necessary after apostille attestation. Why Attestation Is Required & What Does It Means

Travel documents are mandatory while immigrating to foreign countries. These important travel documents include visa, passport, educational certificates, birth certificate, marriage certificate (if migrating along with your spouse), experience certificates etc. To prove the authenticity of the documents, you are required to attest those documents from the country where it was issued.

Attestation is the act of legalising a document to declare its authenticity with a seal and sign of the verifying personnel. It is essential to verify that the document is genuine and issued from the respective countries. It is mainly done to avoid forgery and use of fake documents.

Attested documents are required while immigrating to foreign countries for higher education or employment purposes. For attestation, documents are classified into three categories. They are educational documents, personal and commercial documents.

The process of certificate attestation changes depending upon the type of documents. The important certificate attestation processes are HRD attestation (for educational documents), Home/Notary attestation (for personal documents), Chamber of commerce attestation (for commercial documents), MEA attestation, Embassy attestation, MOFA attestation etc. The initial attestation process varies from state to state.

Importance of SDM attestation

Sub Divisional Magistrate attestation or SDM attestation is another way of legalizing your educational documents, personal certificates like birth certificate, marriage certificate etc. SDM attestation is done from New Delhi.

The importance of SDM attestation lies in the fact that it is the easiest way to attest your personal and educational documents from a single place. SDM Attestation is suitable for those who are not able to travel to their respective state for completing the attestation process. It is an alternative attestation solution for HRD and Notary attestation.

For doing the SDM attestation, you can submit your educational and personal documents in SDM Delhi. After the SDM attestation, you have to do the MEA attestation and then embassy attestation from the embassy of the respective country you are intending to travel.

You can do SDM attestation for all countries except Saudi Arabia. HRD attestation and Notary/Home attestation is mandatory to complete the certificate attestation procedure for Saudi Arabia.
