Process of Apostille Attestation

Apostille attestation is required for travelling to any of the Hague convention member countries. The attestation is done by the Ministry of External Affairs [MEA]. Apostille attestation is mainly done for personal and educational documents.

According to the Hague convention of 1961, a single document is required or legalized to travel to all other Hague member countries. An apostille document is acceptable in all Hague Convention countries. Therefore, there is no need to do document attestation every time you visit a Hague member country.

The main process of apostille attestation is to get the state attestation from the state where the documents were issued. HRD attestation is done for educational documents while Notary attestation/ Home attestation is done for personal documents. After the state attestation, the document is attested from the Ministry of External Affairs. Embassy attestation is not necessary after apostille attestation.
